"Architectural Insight" has allowed me to embark on a profound exploration of Chinese architectural culture. From the outset, my focus was on unraveling the foundational principles that underlie ancient Chinese wooden structures. I delved into extensive research, seeking to showcase quintessential elements of traditional Chinese architecture, ranging from the ethereal gardens of Suzhou to the revered temples, intricate bracket sets (斗拱), and meticulous joinery techniques (榫卯), among other facets.

Yet, as the project evolved, so did my understanding. I came to realize that while these aspects are enduring, they often form the prevailing image of Chinese architecture abroad, eclipsing the contributions of modern Chinese architects and their extraordinary creations. In response, I turned my attention to the influential figures who have left an indelible mark on the architectural landscape of contemporary China. I scrutinized the works of renowned Chinese architects, each contributing a unique narrative to the unfolding story of Chinese design.

In the end, I made a deliberate choice to center the magazine on the distinctive features of the Forbidden City, a symbol of China's architectural grandeur. Simultaneously, I cast a spotlight on the acclaimed Shu Wang, a recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. By anchoring on these two pillars, my aim is to offer readers a fresh perspective, fostering a nuanced appreciation for the dynamic interplay between ancient and modern architectural marvels within China.

"Architectural Insight" is a labor of love that eschews worn-out phrases and clichés, aiming instead for a thoughtful, clear, and engaging exploration of Chinese architectural heritage. Through diligent research and a discerning selection process, this project is my endeavor to provide readers with a comprehensive and enlightening window into the intricate world of Chinese architectural culture.
